DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) is a type of therapy based on skills training (interpersonal skills, regulation of emotions, tolerance of stressful emotions) rather than typical psychotherapy. Combining several therapeutic approaches, DBT was originally designed for severe mental illness (people engaging in self harm or with chronic suicidal thoughts). Research is finding that DBT can be just as effective in less severe cases of mental illness, wherever there is a need to regulate emotions.
